The scouts were able to see how today’s modern radio stations operate from the equipment to the staff. In some cases the programming is done live or done via feed from another source like network news.

The scouts were introduced to afternoon reporter/anchor Bobby Rosinski as he reviewed a video feed of the Rock Hill City council meeting for news. Understanding how the media like a radio station receives and reports the news was part of the scouts objective to help earn what is called the communicator Webelos pin.

At the end of the tour, each scout had chance to record a tag line for the country station saying….. “Interstate 107, Today’s Best Country!”.

When we went to the radio station, Ii thought it was very cool. while we where in the room that had all of the that equipment, it was kind of confusing. the best part of the tour was when we got to record us saying ” today’s best county ”! it was very cool and I’m very glad I got to go. – Wolfgang Redman.

I learned a lot about Am/Fm radio.  I also saw that it takes a lot of equipment to put together a station, I thought that was really cool.  Mario was very nice. – Colin Szatkowski.

I thought the trip to the radio station was awesome!!! Even though some of the equipment was confusing.  we learned so much about the radio stations. Mario even let us record something using the microphone! Going there inspired me to try to be a DJ for a radio station, thank you Interstate 107! – Camden Miller.

A number of people at the Open House complemented the Scouts for a job well done.  Assistant Principal Mr. Gardner asked me if Scouts could be available for other functions. I told him that Pack 250 would look forward to additional opportunities to present the Colors at School events.

Just a heads up on summer camp next year with the Troop.

The Troop Committee has approved the 2010 plans for Summer Camp. Troop 250 will be attending Camp Ottari at the Blue Ridge Scout Reservation (Virginia) from June 27 through July 3, 2010. The Troop attended Camp Ottari during the second week of 2009 summer camp. The staff and programs offered at Camp Ottari are great and will provide our Troop many traditional and high adventure opportunities along with all the fun!
