Once again , the Pinewood Derby was a spectacular event! This year, pictures were taken of each car at check in. The pictures are now posted on the website picture page.The Pack’s over all race winner this year is Jonathan Patyk. There were many great cars and the winners of the den races and judging awards are listed below. Ribbons and other awards will be handed out at the Blue and Gold Banquest on February 20th.

It’s one day away from race day. I am sure many pit crews are making final preparations to their race cars.We have new race track this year. It looks great! Thanks to John Patyk for his many hours of hard work finding, purchasing, and assembling the new track.
It is important that the 2 parents from every den volunteers attend an officials meeting tonight at Grace at 6:30pm.
As a reminder here is the schedule for tonight and Saturday race day:
Jan 22nd (Friday)
- 3:00PM – 5:00PM – Setup for Pinewood Derby (officials only)
- 6:30PM – 7:00PM – Officials Meeting – Need 2 officials per Den
- 7:00PM – 8:30PM – Practice / weigh-in / parent races (kids and parents welcome)
Jan 23rd (Saturday) – Pinewood Derby – Check-in at 9AM, Race Starts at 10:30AM
- 9:00AM – 10:15AM Check-In and Official Weigh-In
- 10:30AM – Race Begins and judging takes place
- 1:00PM – Trophies Awarded for Best Time, Best Paint, Best Design, and cubs choice
- 2:00PM – 4:00PM – Breakdown track and clean up church

There are new Pinewood Derby wheels included with the 2010 Pinewood Derby kits. There are several differences between the older style wheels and the new wheels including a weight reduction from 3.6 grams to 2.6 grams per wheel. I’m attaching a picture of the old vs new wheels to this email so that you can tell the difference in case you would like to pick up newer style wheels for this year’s race (old on the left, new on the right – see the extra step in the center hub). The kits given out at the December pack meeting were the new kits but just in case you received last year’s kit, it’s worth checking the wheels. Pack 250 Pinewood Derby Rules – 2010
- The car must be built from the Official Pinewood Derby Kit. Wheels and axles other than those provided in the kit are prohibited.
- The car must have been built this scouting year. No “used” cars allowed.
- Width shall not exceed 2-3/4 inches.
