Gold Rush Campout – This Weekend Oct 21-23

The Gold Rush Campout is coming up this Friday, October 21st through Sunday, October 23rd.  Directions to Westminster Park in Rock Hill can be found at this link: http://www.bsa250.org/pack250/events/2009/gold-rush-westminster-park-directions/
It looks like we are going to have gorgeous weather for this campout with highs in the 60′s during the day and lows in the 40′s at night. Please bring appropriate clothing and camping gear and plan for any type of weather. There is no rain in the forecast but please keep your eye on the forecast before heading out this weekend.

If you are camping on Friday night, you may arrive at the park starting at 4 PM. I’ve attached a map of the park so you can see where our campsite is.  For those of you who attended last year, our site was to the right as you pulled in and this year we are to the left. You will check in with the staff and they will direct you to the area for Pack 250. Please note that traffic patterns will be different this year than they have been in previous years. As you pull up to the camping area you may unload your supplies and will be asked to move your vehicle to the designated parking area before setting up your tent. There are more than 600 tents scheduled to be put up on Friday so the District is trying to make sure arrivals go smoothly. The area will be very busy and full of small childen so please use caution and yield to all pedestrians.
If you are arriving on Saturday, you may set up at any time. The same precautions will apply. Please note that games begin at 1:00.

Lunch on Saturday will be catered by Courtney’s Barbecue with meals for you to purchase. All other meals will be the responsibility of the individual families. Some dens get together to make a plan for meals so check with your den leader and other families in your den to see if that is a possibility for you. Below is a list of other things to bring and things to know:
- Family camping rules apply. All scouts must camp with a parent or close relative and are not allowed to camp in another family’s tent. Please see your den leader about any questions you may have concerning the BSA rules of family camping.
- All scouts and leaders must wear their uniforms during the games and campfire ceremony on Saturday. Uniforms are preferred for the Sunday service but not mandatory.
- All garbage must be taken out with you. There are no garbage bins in the park.
- All camp fires must be housed in an above ground fire ring. Fires many not be built directly on the ground. Plan to bring firewood with you. Dead trees in the park may be used for firewood but live trees may not.
- No liquid fueled heating sources are allowed (such as propane heaters) and only flashlights and battery operated lanterns are allowed inside tents.
- Bring water for your family
- Bring hand sanitizer and toilet paper. There will be porta potties on site
- Bring sunscreen, bug spray, tent, sleeping bags, pillows, and anything else you might need for camping
- Each child must bring 3 “gold” rocks for playing the games on Saturday. The rocks should be about 1 inch in diameter, nothing too big.       (Dens sometimes get together and do this as a group activity or nominate a parent in the den to spray paint the rocks a week or 2 prior to the campout)
- No sandals/open-toed shoes allowed. No pets allowed.
If you have any questions regarding Gold Rush please let me know!
